Danielle Wirsansky is a PhD Candidate in Modern European History at Florida State University, specializing in WWII, the Holocaust, and gender. A Fulbright Fellow, P.E.O. Scholar, and Elie Wiesel Social Action Fellow, her dissertation is a gendered analysis of the experiences of SOE agents in the F-Section. She is also the founder of White Mouse Productions, a theatre company dedicated to social change. In the past, Danielle served as the Communications Officer and VP of the FSU HGSA. Emily Lu, Vice President

Emily Lu is a Fulbright Scholar and PhD Candidate in History whose research explores the intersections of political music, performance, and cross-cultural encounters. Her work focuses on Jesuit missionaries in East Asia, examining how the performing arts shaped cultural exchange and religious diplomacy. With interests spanning political music, cultural history, and the concept of “encountering the Other,” Emily’s scholarship bridges disciplines to illuminate the power of performance in global historical contexts. She is passionate about using historical research to understand the dynamics of identity, influence, and intercultural communication across time.

Aidan Mackinlay, Secretary

Aidan MacKinlay is currently pursuing a master’s degree in history here at Florida
State University. His current research is focused on the historical memory of the Civil War and the construction of the Lost Cause on the southern landscape. He is the recipient of the Vernacular Architectural Forum’s 2025 Ambassadors Award.

Baylee Staufenbiel, Treasurer

Baylee is a sixth year PhD candidate finishing her dissertation tentatively titled “Altered Wombs and Cosmic Bodies: The Seven-Cell Uterus Doctrine in Pre-Modern Medical Texts.” She examines conceptions of the body overtime, engaging with varying epistemologies and gender theory. She has taught Medicine and Society and the Historian’s Craft. She is also trained in medical anthropology (global health focus) and classical studies. She has been a member of HGSA for my entire time at FSU and has served on HGSA conference committees. This is her second year on the executive board. Gabrielle Camp, Communications

Gabrielle is a second-year MA student. Her research focuses on modern U.S. history and public history, with an emphasis on gender, sexuality, and memory. She attended FSU for undergrad and has worked with the HGSA before, but this is her first year on the executive board. She is also the recipient of the Vernacular Architectural Forum’s 2025 Ambassadors Award.
